Any voter who has a grievance or complaint concerning the May 29, 2022 Bombay Parsi Punchayet (BPP) trusteeship elections can contact the chief election commissioner (CEC) Cmde Aspi Marker (retd) (pictured) via email at electioncommissionbpp@gmail.com. "No other means of communication will be accepted,” stated an email from Marker, dated April 1.
Complainants must provide their full name and address, the voter registration number and a scanned copy of their Aadhaar card. Particulars of the occurrence leading to the complaint, including the name of the person/s against whom the complaint or grievance is made, "shall be made at the earliest possible time from the occurrence complained (about),” stated the CEC.
Appointed by the Bombay High Court (BHC), the six-member election commission comprising the CEC and five assistants is the final authority on all aspects concerning the holding of elections. Under the election scheme framed by the BHC, the CEC is empowered to declare the election of any candidate as invalid for breach of the code of conduct.
Of the 17 candidates in the fray, six are women. Names, in no particular order are as follows: existing BPP trustees Armaity Tirandaz, Kersi Randeria, Viraf Mehta and Xerxes Dastur; social workers Anahita Desai, Maharukh Noble and Yasmin Mistry; educationist Dr Zuleika Homavazir; caterer Tehmtan Dumasia; Cusrow Baug United Sports and Welfare League honorary secretary and former assistant excise commissioner, Hoshang Jal; chartered accountant and president of the Godrej Baug Residents Welfare Association Farhad Hozdar; lawyer and editor of Pol Khol Sachu Bol Kaikhushroo Irani; human resource professional Dr Adil Malia; pharmaceutical association head Daara Patel; thespian Rumy Zarir; former airline employee Farhanaz Irani; and retired inflight manager and investment agent Adil Irani. The last date for withdrawing nominations is May 8, 2022.
