Poona land grab?

An alleged attempt to encroach on Poona Parsi Panchayat (PPP) property was thwarted on April 2, 2025 when "over a hundred members of the local community and the board of trustees led by chairperson Marazban Irani, gathered to remove an unauthorized boundary erected by land grabbers on sacred land,” stated the www.mypunepulse.com website. Excavators (JCB machines) were utilized by the PPP to take down the metal barriers bordering the land.

In a report dated March 31, the website had stated: "The PPP has initiated legal action, seeking a stay order to halt further encroachment. Complaints have been lodged with the Commissioner of Police, Wanowrie Police Station and Poona Municipal Corporation’s Anti-Encroachment Department, urging swift intervention.”
Neville Sheriar Irani, a resident of Parsi Colony, Lullanagar, "has filed a complaint seeking action against the alleged land grabbing. He has written to the Poona Municipal Commissioner, Poona Police Commissioner as well as the Wanowrie Police Station,” stated Pune Pulse.
On March 29, the website stated that the PPP "has raised serious concerns over an alleged illegal encroachment on its ancestral land at Survey No. 603 in Lullanagar. According to the Panchayat, private individuals have unlawfully erected poles and spread sheets in an apparent attempt to stake an unauthorized claim over the property.
"The PPP trust, which is the legal owner and custodian of approximately 8.5 acres of land in Poona, discovered the encroachment on March 24, 2025. Upon inspection, it was found that… trespassers had affixed poles and begun unauthorized activities, including the use of a JCB machine to clear the area, raising fears of illegal construction.
"The PPP is in the process of obtaining a stay order to halt further construction on the land,” stated the website.
