The 10th edition of The Economic Times’ (ET) listing of India’s 100 best companies to work for places Godrej Consumer Products at the 18th place. Learning Café, the company’s initiative to help senior leadership connect with young managers has come in for appreciation from ET. "As part of the session, managers from across functions and… business heads come together to solve live business challenges, facilitating… team building.” The company has a work force of 2,365 and was ranked fifth in the 2016 listings (see "Human capital,” Business, Parsiana, August 21, 2016).
Tata Power (Delhi Distribution) provides a free counseling service for employees and their families. Emotional support is provided via telephone and on-line conversations and face-to-face by counselors, to help develop "coping skills and (to) have emotionally balanced lives.” This is the first time that the company has made it to the select list.
Telecommunications giant Tata Communications and engineering company Forbes Marshall ranked 58th and 71st respectively in the list at the 37th position.
The top spot in the list was taken by Intuit India, the Bangalore based subsidiary of American business and financial software company. The company’s employees are allowed to use up to 10% of their time to think about customers’ problems and innovate new solutions. Nikhil Rungta, managing director of the unit told ET that "We like to keep ourselves constantly learning, implementing those learnings and then starting the cycle all over again.”
The 2017 list highlights the following human resource practices in companies that are likely to make a significant impact: involving peers to make newcomers feel welcome; structured mechanisms for feedback; structured methods for thanking families and conducting an equal pay audit.
