Supporting the police

The Yohan Poonawalla Foundation has donated a second jeep to the Poona Police "in appreciation of their selfless duty to protect the citizens during the prevailing Covid-19 pandemic,” noted a press release from the businessman’s office. Yohan Poonawalla handed over the keys of the Mahindra vehicle to Commissioner of Police Amitabh Gupta at the Koregaon Park Police Station on July 9, 2021.

The businessman noted that it was the department’s "bold and gallant approach” to curb the pandemic that prompted him to offer the utility vehicle "to enhance safety and mobility of the officers while patrolling.” Urging all citizens to follow regular guidelines laid down by the police force which help them stay safe during these difficult times, Poonawalla stated that the Foundation "support(s) all frontline healthcare workers and the police force and (is) united in this fight against the pandemic.”
"My family has been involved in various charitable initiatives and I feel privileged to carry on the legacy for notable causes particularly involving our frontline officers in the city,” commented Poonawalla in the note. An email from his office added that the aim of the Foundation is "to support mainly the underprivileged strata of our society, the frontline officers and healthcare workers.” The Foundation maintains the garden in the Sir J. J. Agiary in Poona.
