As we move to an increasingly digital society, new generation data center servers generate significant heat and consume an increasing share of global power. Dorab Bhagwagar’s creation of a hybrid silicon material to be used as a data center coolant recently qualified for the prestigious innovation awards program, R&D (Research and Development) 100 Awards USA.
To recognize such revolutionary ideas in science and technology from around the world, "The Oscars of Innovation Banquet” was held on November16, 2022 in San Diego, USA. At the gala event, members of the development teams were acknowledged and honored for their pathbreaking work. Attending the function with his daughter Somya, Dorab considered it a wonderful opportunity for the world’s leading innovators to come together, network and exchange ideas.

Dorab was the development lead of the global team creating this new generation liquid. The product called "DOWSIL™ ICL-100 Data Centre Immersion Cooling Fluid” has the properties compatible to this critical application. The fluid can be sprayed or used to immerse the entire data center servers. By managing heat and energy consumption, data centers can improve their efficiency while showing significant sustainability benefits.
Having completed his early education from the St Francis De’Sales School in Nagpur, with distinction in English, mathematics, physics, chemistry and social sciences, Dorab then proceeded to the College of Engineering in Poona. Standing first with distinction during his first and second year of College, he was awarded the Government Open Merit Scholarship.
Always a topper in his exams, Dorab easily gained admission to the Pennsylvania State University for his Masters. Before leaving for the USA , Dorab applied to many trusts in India for scholarships to pay for his postgraduate studies in USA. But seeing the results of his last exam, the Pennsylvania State University waived all fees. Dorab therefore returned all the scholarships he had received, with one exception, the Tata Scholarship. He took pride in being a Tata Scholar.
