The Women Graduates Union (WGU)’s Day of Dynamic Interaction with Movers and Shakers on March 1, 2025, focused on different forms of women’s empowerment. During the day-long event past presidents and trustees of the WGU were honored for the exemplary work done during their tenure, mentions a note sent to Parsiana by WGU president Pervin Vanwari and coordinating trustee Havovi Gandhi.

The 110-year-old WGU is an institution that caters to working class women, playing a significant part in uplifting their status in society, details a note from WGU. It has been affiliated to the Indian Federation of University Women’s Association and International Federation of University Women since 1920. Among its projects is the Sir Purshotamdas Thakurdas Hostel for working women; a scholarship program for women that disburses around 100 need-cum-merit scholarships to students for research, undergraduate or professional courses; a counseling and guidance center to provide career guidance to students, raise awareness about waste management and the environment and even legal aid; a study center for students of municipal schools which runs in two shifts to help 45 children with homework; a consumer and civic affairs cell which includes a consumer grievances cell. And the Behramji Lalkaka Balwadi which is run in collaboration with the Lalkaka Family Fund with 30 toddlers aged between three and five who are introduced to preschool education through play-way methods.
