Babies born, marriages solemnized and deaths that occurred between May 16 and 31, 2015 have been mentioned herewith.
Thirty-six Zoroastrians opted to be consigned to the Bombay Towers of Silence. Only one baby was born during this period. No marriages were solemnized.
Of the nine patients that fell prey to diseases of the heart, seven were octogenarians and nonagenarians. While anemia took the lives of five Zoroastrians, three succumbed to cancer. Asthma, multi organ failure and old age/general debility claimed two victims each. Death due to isolated causes were: gastroenteritis, septicemia, Parkinson’s disease, gastro-intestinal bleed, hypertension, brain disease, kidney failure, hypothyroidism, urinary tract infection, Alzheimer’s disease and lung disease/pneumonia. In the case of two deaths, the coroner’s report was reserved as the histopathological examination and chemical analysis reports were pending. A 97-year-old male and a 59-year-old female were the oldest and youngest to expire. The mean age at death of Zoroastrians for the last 15 days of May in Bombay, was 82 years.
The data on births, marriages and deaths has been compiled from information supplied by various newsletters and anjumans in India and abroad, courts and hospitals. This information is not always complete or consistent: we are unable to carry data from areas where the anjumans do not furnish the particulars; the birth figures for Bombay are supplied by two hospitals — births in suburban hospitals and private nursing homes are not included unless individuals send us information together with a copy of the birth certificate. There may be an inadvertent repetition of names in the marriage list when a civil marriage precedes a religious ceremony. The names of the deceased are supplied by the Bombay Parsi Punchayet. In the break-up of deaths according to illnesses, especially of the elderly, death is often due to a combination of several diseases.
