Bombay’s homeless children are "the best source of news and gossip,” stated industrialist and chairman of the Tata Trusts, Ratan Tata (pictured) while being honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Giants International. When once asked for money 
by an urchin, Tata handed over a 10-rupee note, the only one he had in his wallet. "Ten rupees, that’s all you’ve got? You better keep it then. It might come in handy,” the lad told him. Tata was responding to Giants International chairperson Shaina N. C.’s statement at the September 17, 2017 ceremony that she first spotted the businessman at a traffic light happily chatting with a street urchin.
Journalist Malavika Sangghvi reported the exchange in her column "malavika’s mumbai” in the mid-day (of September 19). Dr Cyrus and Adar Poonawalla, were also honoured for their contribution to business. On being complimented by Cyrus on how well he was looking, Tata is reported to have said, "I don’t know about that. As you know, I have been through hell recently... of course not to mention your namesake,” a reference to his disagreements with erstwhile chairman of the Tata Group, Cyrus Mistry. Sangghvi, who also received an award that evening for excellence in journalism, reported that Tata’s statement "brought forth a guffaw, not only from the Poonawallas, but from others in the room.”
