Marine biologist

India lost its leading, world renowned marine biologist Dr Boman Framji Chhapgar  (pictured) on August 5, 2018. Former director of the Taraporewala Aquarium, Chhapgar had to his credit the discovery of numerous marine animals, new to science. Whenever a curious looking fish got washed ashore on our coast, Chhapgar was the first scientist to be consulted for its exact identity. Author of several books and research papers on the coastal ecosystem, in his later years he had a very fruitful association with the Bombay Natural History Society. The torrential rains of July 25, 2005 and the floods in its wake destroyed the entire stock of one of his newly published books.
