On February 26, 2013 the Delhi High Court asked the Delhi Police to respond to a bail plea filed by Kobad Ghandy, 65, who has been incarcerated in Tihar Jail since his arrest on September 20, 2009 without proper charges being framed against him. The alleged Maoist leader has asked the Court to consider his plea "sympathetically" on account of his advanced age and medical problems. A notice was issued to the police by Justice G. P. Mittal asking them to file a response by May 2, 2013, reported The Indian Express (IE) on February 27, 2013.
Quoting from the petition, IE writes: "The bail plea application may be considered sympathetically since besides being a senior citizen the applicant suffers from multiple ailments including urinary prostate problem, irritable bowel syndrome, heart problem, high blood pressure, arthritis and spondylitis for which he requires constant care and consistent medical attention, which he cannot receive in jail."
