Secure in Surat

The corpus of the Surat Parsi Panchayat Funds and Properties (SSP) which stood at Rs 88,037,380 for the year ended March 31, 2003, increased to Rs 98,597,635 for the year ended March 31, 2004, according to their statement of accounts and balance sheet forwarded to Parsiana by the SPP president Darayas Master. During the last financial year, maximum expenditure was incurred on education, Rs 12,210,835, followed by Rs 1,383,305 on medical relief and Rs 966,237 on relief of poverty. Among expenses in respect of properties, the maximum, Rs 169,004 was borne on repairs and maintenance.
The corpus of the Surat Parsi Boys Orphanage increased from Rs 8,335,116 to Rs 9,014,658, the institution receiving Rs 469,396 as donations during the year. Similarly the corpus of the Nariman Parsi Zoroastrian Girls Orphanage increased from Rs 9,774,244 to Rs 10,559,502, their donations from public trusts and individuals totaling Rs 93,883. The Bai P. M. Patel Siganporewala Girls School continues to function with a corpus of Rs 407,166. Their donations being limited to Rs 1,852, they are dependent on grants to the tune of Rs 125,500.
The Seth Sorabji Nauserwanji Parukh Polytechnic Institute functions with a corpus of Rs 137,405 and the Seth K. H. Alpaiwala Industrial Institute for Women and Girls with a corpus of Rs 175,435, the latter having received Rs 30,265 through donations.
The First Dastur Meherji Rana Trust Funds expends the largest sums on educational causes, Rs 58,000, and showed an increase in corpus from Rs 1,047,171 to Rs 1,057,533. The Dastur Darab Pahlana Trust spends its largest sums on medical relief, Rs 58,800 and operates with a corpus that increased from Rs 1,075,570 to Rs 1,086,673. Similarly the Sorabji Burjorji Dastur Darab Pahalana Trust expended the largest amount on medical relief, Rs 50,116 followed by Rs 48,800 on educational objectives. Their corpus increased from Rs 1,616,805 to Rs 1,617,780.
Even the corpus of the Seth R. D. Tarachand Surat Parsi General Hospital registered an increase from Rs 21,925,812 to Rs 23,206,628 although it expended Rs 1,643,569 on medical relief during the year. Likewise the Nariman Home and Infirmary incurred Rs 930,493 on medical relief yet its corpus increased from 31,767,114 to Rs 32,639,625. The Bai G. N. Mehta Matenity Hospital has a limited corpus of Rs 63,557 and spent Rs 71,435 on medical relief during the year.
