"In our first month, we stabilized the outlet and since the third month we started with online orders and deliveries. We already have repeat customers, which is a delight to see,” says Sharmain Khoree who with her husband Surodeep Chaudhuri launched Gobble Up Churros, their second eatery in Bangalore on April 1 this year.
The success of their first venture, Gobble Me Up at VR Mall at Whitefield in Bangalore (see "Something different,” Parsiana, January 21, 2016) prompted them to open a second independent outlet at Number 46, 80 ft Road, Indiranagar, as this area is a fast and happening location. They tweaked the name from Gobble Me Up to Gobble Up Churros. They changed the logo too because they needed a stronger connect to the product in their brand. "We also wanted to cater to a larger experimental foodie community,” states Khoree.

Gobble Up Churros offers a lot more than churros. It is a Spanish style café that serves Spanish fast food or street food in addition to the churros and desserts that was already on the menu. They cater to a wider range of tastes and have something for everyone, from salads and baked snacks to desserts. They added tapas that include bravas, montaditos and tortillas. Open from 12 noon to 11 p.m., the prices remain reasonable (around Rs 250 for two) with the quality of the food and drinks being exceptionally high.
The outlet tries to recreate the flavorful yet clean taste of Spanish food and succeeds. A few of their popular specialities are the tortillas, traditional Spanish omelettes and patatas bravas. The patatas bravas are white potatoes tossed in salt and pepper with their house special spice rub, and served with tomato or aioli sauce. The empanadas or baked stuffed pastry pockets are available in two selections — Cottage Cheese and Spinach and Pulled Chicken.
For egg lovers, apart from the tortillas, there is the Breakfast Sandwich or rustic style house special montadito served with chicken, bacon, lettuce, tomato, mayonnaise and fried eggs. It is so popular that it is served all day long.
They also serve the Original Spanish Churros with a choice of chocolate or hazelnut sauce; children love their ‘Gem It’ or churros covered with gems. Then there are churros called Candy Crush, Peanut Caramel, Banana Fudge, Cream Cheese, Fresh Strawberries, Vanilla and White Chocolate, Brownie Burst, Dark Chocolate and even Cheese Lover Churros to name just a few. The show stopper among desserts is the sinful Hazelnut Churro Sundae which is a Hazelnut-Chocolate Ganache with a secret topping and ice-cream. The Nutella Cappuccino is delicious too. Their food is available on both Swiggy and Zomato.
"Good planning and foresight helps manage both the units,” declares Khoree who has a good support system in the form of her in-laws, Lilly and Deepak, and parents Khurshid and Jamshed. Buoyed by Bangalore’s response, one can expect to see more Gobble Up Churros cafés as the owners plan to grow.
