Kaevaan and Zahan Setalvad bagged the gold and silver medals respectively at the National Equestrian Championship held in Delhi on February 9-16, 2021. The brothers were part of Bombay’s Amateur Riders Club (ARC) team. Other teams represented Delhi and Bangalore.
Riding German, Dutch and French warm blood horses specially bred for showjumping sports, when asked by The Economic Times (March 9, 2021) about their success they replied: "Great to put ARC and Bombay on the national map in showjumping!” Kaevaan gave further credit to "commitment, hard work, good coaches and suitable horses which have to compete over three or four days.”
They had earlier represented India in the Asian Games held in Jakarta in 2018 and are now training for the 2022 Games due to take place in China.
In their early 20s, Kaevaan and Zahan, sons of Sharmeen and Kevic Setalvad, former solicitor general in the Bombay High Court, have been brought up in the Parsi tradition. Kevic, a fourth generation lawyer, is the grandson of Sir Chimanlal Setalvad. He has had a long association with equestrian sports and owns a string of European sport horses which are stabled and trained in Bangalore.
