I agree with Mehroo Kharegat ("Be grateful," Readers’ Forum, Parsiana, September 21, 2018).
Even in the religious sphere we see vocal extremist opinions that prefer dying out of our rituals and priesthood, rather than adapting to today’s realities by opening up priesthood to behdins who are really interested in serving. Often some career mobeds and Mobed Council leaders state that if we have trained mobeds we don’t need mobedyars. What they ignore is that most trained ervads are not willing to serve as they are busy in their non-religious careers. Depending on a few ervads who may not always be available, can end up being costly when we have to pay for the travel costs of outstation mobeds and their lodging.
While it is important to hear contrary opinions based on facts in order to avoid making serious mistakes, discussions should be confined to the community, otherwise there is a possibility of losing whatever assets we have. Our Prophet Zarathushtra told his followers to listen carefully, ponder, consult wise people, and think for themselves instead of practicing the faith blindly.
