Talking Toosi

Ahmedabad resident Darayus Kavina (pictured) delivered an hour-long talk on Shahnameh na shaayar Ferdowsi Toosi nu jivan (The life of Shahnameh composer Ferdowsi Toosi) to about 45 members of the Borivili and Suburban Zoroastrian Association (BASZA) on November 3, 2019 at the Rustomjee International School. Kavina took the audience through Toosi’s struggles and triumphs over the 33 years that it took him to compose the 100,000 lines of poetry comprising over 50,000 couplets in classical Persian. Toosi’s work had commenced when he was 45 years old and ended when he was nearing 80, noted BASZA secretary Khurshed Pastakia in an email to Parsiana. During his introduction to the audience, Pastakia mentioned that Darayus’ father, Hoshang, was a researcher into the life of Toosi, the Shahnameh, and numerous other subjects.
