The Parsi population of Navsari has shown a drop of eight percent in the 44-year period between 1974, when their last directory was published, and 2018. In the same period, the percentage of those over 50 years of age increased from 39% to 46% as the town’s flagging population received a boost following the construction of Avan Baug and other housing projects such as the one initiated by the WZO (World Zoroastrian Organisation) Trust Funds. Parsis from the surrounding towns were drawn to Navsari.
The current directory (pictured) released on January 20, 2019 listed 2,136 members (see "Felicitations in Navsari,” Events and Personalities, Parsiana, February 7, 2019). The Directory and Survey Report of the Parsis of Navsari released in 1974 and compiled by The Navsari Jarthosti Hunnar Fund stated that in that year there were 729 families comprising 2,326 individuals. Parsiana had carried a review of the volume by former joint secretary of the Bombay Parsi Punchayet Sapur Desai (see "Look homeward,” Books, Parsiana, September 1976).
Desai had then noted that several of the articles in the volume dwelt nostalgically on past glories "but the story that the sheaf of statistics conveys is discouraging and reflects demographic trends in the Parsi community as a whole.”
