In order to publish more current Milestones information Parsiana will carry the names of the deceased from the Bombay Parsi Punchayet (BPP) website bpp-
paidust.in and of those cremated and/or whose funerary ceremonies were performed at the Worli Prayer Hall. The names of those cremated are sent to us by Prayer Hall coordinator Ervad Framroze Mirza, by e-mail.
The last few names of those deceased in the end of March 2017 find mention here as well as those who passed away till April 10.
Doongerwadi deaths numbered 65 for March as compared to nine Zoroastrian births (data supplied by one south Bombay hospital). Twenty-four patients succumbed to diseases of the heart (16 were over 80 years). Pneumonia/lung disease took a toll of 11 lives. While four Zoroastrians each fell prey to septic shock and old age/general debility, three each perished due to cancer, kidney failure, sepsis and septicemia. Hypertension, arteriosclerosis (degenerative arterial change associated with advancing age), multi organ failure, gastro-intestinal bleed, hemiplegia (paralysis of one side of the body), urosepsis, Parkinson’s disease, liver disease, motor neuron disease, diabetes and asthma were single causes of deaths. A community member was an unfortunate victim of a road accident. The community lost two centenarians, both males — one 100-year-old and the other, 101 (the eldest to breathe his last). The youngest age at death was 60.The mean age at death of Zoroastrians for March 2017 in Bombay was 82 years.
The data on births, marriages and deaths has been compiled from information supplied by various newsletters and anjumans in India and abroad, courts and hospitals. This information is not always complete or consistent: we are unable to carry data from areas where the anjumans do not furnish the particulars; the birth figures for Bombay are supplied by one hospital — births in suburban hospitals and private nursing homes are not included unless individuals send us information together with a copy of the birth certificate. There may be an inadvertent repetition of names in the marriage list when a civil marriage precedes a religious ceremony. The names of the deceased alongwith their ages, addresses and causes of deaths are forwarded to Parsiana by the BPP. The trust however notes that the information has not been verified or authenticated by them. In the break-up of deaths according to illnesses, especially of the elderly, death is often due to a combination of several diseases.
