Signature style

AIDS awareness campaigner and occasional designer Parmeshwar Godrej, wife of Godrej Group chairman Adi Godrej has lent her name to the interiors of a 3,401 sq ft apartment in Planet Godrej at Mahalaxmi. Offering spectacular views of South Bombay, the apartment, which is located on the 44th floor is up for auction at a fixed reserve price of Rs 15 crore, reported Mumbai Mirror (MM) on December 7, 2010.

Most of the apartments in Planet Godrej, which was launched in 2005, have been sold out and Godrej is not in any hurry to dispose of the remaining few, Pankaj Kapoor, managing director of Liases Foras, India’s leading real estate analytical site informed MM. "In today’s market when you try and sell to the crème you have to bring in a signature statement,” he feels. And other sources told MM that with the city’s leading socialite lending her name the project may just gain tremendously in equity. Anant Narayanan, director of Frank Knight India, consultants in property sales and services, said such apartments were seen as "aspirational acquisitions” or "trophy assets,” MM noted.
Godrej made her presence felt in the field when she designed the Khyber restaurant at Kala Ghoda in collaboration with iconic artist M. F. Husain. About the current project, "I designed this apartment upon the request of my son Pirojsha who heads Godrej Properties. This is the only apartment I have designed in 20 years,” she responded to MM queries by e-mail. According to the newspaper, the interiors are Zen inspired and come with selected Italian furniture.
