She was not expected to live. Born to Rustom and Freny Andhyarujina in 1934, the fourth child in less than five years, Khorshed had congenital rickets, a condition characterized by soft and weak bones caused by maternal Vitamin D deficiency. She was the third daughter; there were already two girls, Gool and Neena, followed by a boy, Tehmtan. With four children under the age of five, the Andhyarujinas were struggling.
