Past Perfect, a heritage management agency based in Bombay, is currently working on a book documenting the history of Vitrum, an art studio that hosted renowned artists such as Badri Narayan and K. K. Hebbar. They experimented with ceramic painting and mosaics from the 1950s to the 1970s.
Vitrum Studio was housed in Rutton Villa at Cumballa Hill, opposite the F. D. Petit Parsee Sanatorium. Today, Rutton Villa has been transformed into Dhanvantari Bhavan at the end of a tiny lane right next to the petrol pump at Kemps Corner.
The Villa and the nearby Capadia House were formerly owned by Bezonji and Shirin Capadia, and later by Bobby and Dina Capadia who rented out its ground floor to the studio. All we know about Bobby and Dina from the 1950s is that they did not have any children, but Bobby had several siblings — Jehangir, Kaikhushru and a few sisters.
We are reaching out to readers in the hope of connecting with individuals who may have heard of Vitrum Studio or any persons associated with it, and also to gather visuals of Vitrum Studio and Rutton Villa.
If readers have any leads on the same, they may please contact us by email.
