“Great organizing skills”

Veteran Congress leader and five-time Member of Parliament Gurudas Kamat (pictured) who died of a heart attack on August 22, 2018 in New Delhi is survived by his wife Mahrookh, a Parsi, and his son Dr Sunil. Kamat served as president of the Bombay unit of the Congress from 2003 to 2008. A lawyer by profession, he entered politics as president of the party’s student wing and later as president of the Youth Congress. First elected to the Lok Sabha in 1984 from Bombay North East, he went on to win the same seat in 1991, 1998 and 2004 and in 2009 from Bombay North West. "Gurudas helped build the Congress Party in Bombay and was greatly respected and admired by all,” noted Party president Rahul Gandhi in a tweet following his demise. Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis commended Kamat’s "great organizing skills” and stated that he was "connected to ordinary people… He was known for blunt comments on public causes.” ...
