I cannot agree more with K. J. Parakh when he says readers are not informed in time and come to know about events after they are over ("Subscribers’ comments,” Readers’ Forum, Parsiana, June 7, 2013). As a resident of the western suburbs I am near and yet so far, cut off from community activities and events which my family would like to participate in and can do easily if informed in good time.
We come to know of an event only after it is over and reported by Parsiana or other Parsi publications. Only Zubin Wadia of Salsette Parsi Colony puts in an enormous effort, maintaining email contact to inform residents of the distant suburbs about every activity well in advance.
I suggest a free advance listing of events to encourage youngsters from the community to participate, interact and benefit thereby.
In Parsi colonies in Andheri and Jogeshwari the residents are active, as are the Parsis of Borivli. That leaves the Parsis of Goregaon and Malad completely cut off since we have no immediate proximity to any baug or Parsi colony, nor are we able to even access a weekly Parsi newspaper in time. Subscribed newspapers reach us in the middle of the following week. The only way we can connect is through advance listing or email.
I shall be happy to put together a database of Parsis residing in the western and central suburbs and all others who are interested, to keep them informed about various events if they contact me by email.
