“Struggle for survival”

I was very deeply touched by the detailed article on the late Shanoor Forbes ("Struggle for survival,” Memoirs, Parsiana, April 7-20, 2019), who became a tetraplegic as the result of a fall from a horse and was wheelchair bound. Not many are aware that she was the daughter of the extremely eminent counsel on excise and allied laws Porus Mehta, a very humble and simple person rendering top class service at extremely modest fees. Forbes was also a good painter and fond of horses. One of her paintings, of a horse, adorned the chamber of her father. Alas, her father’s breed of counsel, concerned with service first and fees only second has been relegated to the pages of history, subject to a few exceptions.                                                    NANU B. I practised as an advocate in the Bombay High Court for twenty-five years till my family and I migrated to New Zealand in 1992. I am now a semi-retired barrister in Auckland. I knew Porus Mehta very well, as my chambers were on the same floor. He was a very fine man. My email address is kersiekhambatta@gmail.com
