A public meeting was summoned to denounce the dancer for associating herself with a Hindi film
Shirin Vajifdar

An article in the Sunday Standard  by D. C. Shah titled "Parsi girl dancer breaks into movies” with a photograph of Shirin Vajifdar in a dance pose earned her the wrath of the community in 1943 (see "Dared to dance,” Parsiana, March 7-20, 2021). The excerpt below is carried from her unpublished autobiography "A Bird Must Fly.” For over 30 years Vajifdar had served as a senior dance critic for The Times of India and the Indian Express. This publicity was to cost me dear! Already my appearance at the Greens (Hotel) had created some agitation amongst the more orthodox section......
