Interfaith unions solemnized between April to June 2018 are featured in this issue. However, those names of intermarried Parsis that could not be identified as Zoroastrian have been omitted from the list.
Seven interfaith marriages each were registered at the OCH and at Khar respectively. Three Parsi couples opted for civil marriage (at OCH).
Parsiana sources information for the Milestones column from various anjumans, hospitals, individuals, newsletters and publications. While much of the material is sketchy, the Bombay marriages and death lists are quite exhaustive.
Data on marriages within the community in Bombay is culled four times in a year from the office of the Registrar of Marriages at the Bombay High Court and on interfaith unions from the Registrar of Marriages offices at Fort and Khar. There may be an inadvertent repetition of names in the marriage list when a civil marriage precedes a religious ceremony.
The list of the deceased and causes of deaths for those consigned to the Doongerwadi in Bombay is provided by the Bombay Parsi Punchayet with a disclaimer that the information has not been verified or authenticated by them. The Worli Prayer Hall sends Parsiana names of those cremated there.
The last few names of those deceased in July 2018 find mention here as well as those who passed away till August 11.
In the break-up of Bombay Doongerwadi deaths, especially of the elderly, death is often due to a combination of several diseases.
Causes of deaths for July 2018: Various diseases of the heart felled 20 patients. Sixteen of those 20 had crossed the 80-year milestone. While pneumonia/lung disease took the lives of nine Zoroastrians, four died due to kidney failure and three each to cancer and old age/general debility. Two persons each were victims of multi organ failure, septic shock and diabetes. Dengue, chest congestion, respiratory tract infection, leukemia, cachexia, Parkinson’s disease and liver disease claimed isolated lives. A still born baby girl and a 20-year-old youth (the youngest to breathe his last) were lost to the community, as were two centenarians, aged 101 and 102 (eldest to die). The mean age at death of Zoroastrians for July 2018 in Bombay was 79 years.

Data on births in Bombay is made available by the Breach Candy Hospital. Births in other hospitals and private nursing homes are included when an individual sends us information together with a copy of the birth certificate.
