The article, "Prize medals: patronage and philanthropy,” (Parsiana, October 7-20, 2020) was very interesting, especially seeing the Sorabjee Shapoorjiee Bengalee gold medal (pictured) displayed on the cover.
I am a proud recipient of this gold medal, awarded to me in 1956 by my alma mater Bai M. N. Gamadia Girls’ High School, Bombay, for standing first in the school in the SSC exams. This medal was awarded on an annual basis alternately to the first ranking student of Gamadia Girls’ School and Bengalee Girls’ School, both managed by the Parsee Girls’ School Association.
I am sure many readers of Parsiana may have been the recipients of some of the medals featured in your article. I hope they too come forward to pay homage to our philanthropic ancestors who recognized and rewarded excellence in all areas of education.
