The rift referred to in the Parsiana September 7, 2017 Editorial Viewpoint "The alliance is over” between the Bombay Parsi Punchayet (BPP) chairman Yazdi Desai and trustee Noshir Dadrawala is resolved, states Desai. In his "BPP Connect” column in the Parsi Times weekly of October 7, Desai claims, "A section of the Parsi Press who were uncomfortable with the strength in unity of the Alliance (between BPP trustees Yazdi Desai, Noshir Dadrawala, Kersi Randeria and Zarir Bhathena) were happy with the rift and even stoked the fires. Unfortunately for these selfish vested interests, the strong undercurrent of commitment to the community’s welfare flowing through the trustees melted the rift and the board is once again functioning harmoniously. "What is also heartening is that even the trustees (Armaity Tirandaz and Viraf Mehta) who were not part of the unified working body are now working together in the interests of the community.”
To ensure future peace, the trustees may do well to follow the advice of Irish playwright and poet Oscar Wilde: "Arguments are to be avoided, they are always vulgar and often convincing.”
As for managing that selfish vested interest (Parsiana) who stoked the fires, in the words of ace sleuth Sherlock Holmes, "The Press, Watson, is most a valuable institution, if you only know how to use it!”
