There is a misconception in India that any imported product is better; that foreigners are sharper, cleverer and more sophisticated; that any foreign country is better and more advanced than ours.
It has become the norm among upper class Indians to holiday abroad. They put up with the uncertainties of obtaining visas; dealing with immigration officials who give them unwelcoming looks; language and food problems; conversion of currency; long flights; and considerable expense.
On their return these Indians describe mountains, rivers, waterfalls and buildings as if they have seen these things for the first time. They may not value a lovely waterfall at Lonavala or snow in Simla or Srinagar, or driving around Flora Fountain or Victoria Terminus at night to admire the beautiful structures.
There is infinite beauty in Hindustan, with resorts suitable for every pocket at every destination, polite waiters who understand you, hotels that welcome you with a tilo (auspicious mark on forehead) and garland, cabbies who transport you for piffling amounts.
A holiday in India is so much easier, smoother, quicker and cheaper.
Let us discover India and embrace it.
