In early 2020 the Federation of Zoroastrian Associations of North America (FEZANA) was keen to avail an offer from the University of Toronto (UoT) to establish the FEZANA Professorship of Zoroastrian Languages and Literature in perpetuity in North
America. UoT had offered to match CAD 1.5 million (Rs 8,41,57,590) if FEZANA was able to raise USD 1.5 million (Rs 11,25,15,000) by April 30, 2020. However, with the Covid-19 pandemic interrupting the donation drive, "we are in discussion with the University for an extension till April 2021,” FEZANA president Arzan Wadia clarified in August.
"If you want to give a gift to your children, grandchildren and future generations, then please consider giving them this gift, to have the opportunity to study the ancient language and literature of their own religion. Our collective action of generosity right now will make that learning opportunity a possibility for our future generations, not just in North America, but anywhere in the world,” noted the earlier appeal from Bakhtavar Desai and Behnaz Mistry of the FEZANA Interfaith Activities Committee.
"At the initiation of this project we had consulted various academicians within our community and those who have been long-standing torchbearers of Zoroastrian academia over the last few decades. They are fully supportive of the overall initiative and efforts. We continue to engage them and seek their advice and expertise on this project,” then FEZANA president Homi Gandhi had assured prospective donors prior to the lockdown.
