Nagpur fund-raiser

Bawdy jokes, heavy use of cuss words for close to two hours, high energy and overt expressiveness, made up for what comedian Sorabh Pant’s (pictured) jokes may have lacked, in terms of a punch, at the Nagpur Parsi Gymkhana (NPG) fund-raiser on October 7, 2018 at the Vasantrao Deshpande Hall. "He was casual and cool, as is his style, and started off with some clichéd jokes about (diminishing) Parsis and tigers, and even encouraged the audience to go [expletive deleted] as that was the need of the hour,” noted Khurshid Dalal, editor of bawabuzz, the journal of the NPG in an email to Parsiana. "From there on his jokes meandered from sex to politics to films to WhatsApp forwards, to cricket, football, marriage, children, and family.
"While the younger generation in the back gallery was clapping, hooting and cheering like there’s no tomorrow, the straight-jacketed ones and the not-so-young were quite clearly embarrassed and squirming in their seats,” remarked Dalal. "But what is a Parsi if nothing but a good sport!” she added.
The fund-raiser "on the whole was an enormous success,” thanks to the efforts of Dalal, Cyrus Major, Tauby Bhagwagar, Shiraz Doongaji, Parheez Gimi and other volunteers and committee members. Put together over a period of two months, Dalal called it "an exhilarating roller coaster kind of ride.”
Pant has performed over 250 shows in multiple cities, according to Wikipedia. He was rated amongst India’s top 10 stand-up comedians in the country by The Times of India in 2011.
