Daryush’s Nirooman

Seventy-four-year-old Nirooman Bastani met his death after reportedly falling from his 16th floor flat in a high-rise in Lower Parel. The incident has been registered as an accidental death, reported The Times of India (ToI) of September 16, 2019. Bastani was rushed to the nearby B. Y. L. Nair Hospital, but was declared dead on admission. According to the article, Bastani was "undergoing treatment for an illness.”
Senior inspector of police Pandit Thorat told ToI that "His family members were at home when the incident took place… The reason behind the (incident) is still not known.” Statements of witnesses are being recorded, said the news report.
Bastani was a partner in Daryush Bakery and Cake Shop in Central Bombay. In her column "Gorging in Girgaum and other tales” about eateries in the area in mid-day (MD) dated September 15, columnist Meher Marfatia stated that the 1929-established outlet was "spruced smart” by Nirooman’s son Neil. "The shop remains in Building No. 272 to which (Neil’s) great-great-grandfather Rostum came from Yazd,” Marfatia stated. Quoting archeologist and caterer Kurush Dalal, Marfatia wrote that "Daryush created the mother of all jam puffs, our ultimate treat as kids craving them. Ladies pre-ordered these in multiple dozens for fancy teas they hosted.”
