It was painful to read about the illegal occupation of "a portion of the 7,741 sq m aramgah land that houses 25 graves…” ("Desecration in Rajkot,” Events and Personalities, Parsiana July 21-August 6, 2019).
A fundamental mistake was made by the custodians of the land by permitting the three non-Parsi guards to stay on the land. An old Gujarati adage goes: Rotlo aapo, pun otlo nahi (Offer bread but not the forecourt). It is a grave lesson and a warning to all the custodians of our community’s lands never to be generous to the extent of giving the otlo.
