BPP elections before or after?

A division bench of the Bombay High Court comprising Justices Sharukh Kathawalla and Milind Jadhav will further discuss two options tomorrow morning for the much delayed Bombay Parsi Punchayet (BPP) trusteeship election. One option is to decide the election date now and let the proposed amendments be finalized later and be applicable to the newly elected trustees. This approach is favored by BPP trustees Noshir Dadrawala and Kersi Randeria.
The second option is to finalize the amendments first and then set the date for the election. This option is favored by BPP trustees Armaity Tirandaz (chairwoman), Viraf Mehta and Xerxes Dastur.
Kathawalla indicated there maybe a "technical" problem with the first alternative.
The two proposed amendments are to reduce the trustees' term from seven to five years and the tenure from 21 years to 10.
As of now Kathawalla indicated the March 27 date for holding the elections appeared remote. The Justices intend to appoint an amicus curiae to assist the Court in the matter.
Due to the pandemic the Court timings from tomorrow will be from 11.30 to 2.30, five days a week. Only urgent matters will be taken up. Tomorrow’s virtual meet will be held in the Justices' chambers at 10.30.
