“Sell out at the Ripon Club?”

In the article "Sell out at the Ripon Club?” (Parsiana, December 21, 2016), a statement has been attributed to Jimmy Pochkhanawalla, trustee of the Club and senior advocate, who chaired the meeting: "He claimed that a social club could not seek protection under the Maharashtra Rent Control Act and that the suit has been filed under the Transfer of Property Act.” This attribution is factually incorrect and unfortunately conveys a wrong impression. Actually, when asked by members to apprise them about the particulars of the suit filed by the landlord against the Club, Pochkhanawalla responded that according to the landlords a social club does not enjoy protection under the Rent Act and hence the suit has been filed under the Transfer of Property Act. There is material difference between what Pochkhanawalla conveyed and what has been published. XERXES V.
