On January 27, 2017 when my father-in-law, Sarosh Rustomji Daruwalla, expired in Navsari, my family and I went there to attend his funeral. When his body was being carried by the nassessalars I wished to join them as I offer voluntary services as a nassessalar in Ahmedabad. At first they refused, but when they realized that the body was heavy, they accepted my offer of help.
As we six pallbearers took my father-in-law’s body into the dakhma I noticed that four or five bodies had been placed there earlier. There was no putrid smell inside the Tata dakhma (pictured) or in the place outside where I took my nahan. This is my personal experience and I would like to inform all Zoroastrians that the Navsari doongerwadi is in a working state, well maintained and with a clean environment.
