  The idea of whether or not menstruating women are spiritually unclean in our religion has been the subject of discussion in which historical facts are conspicuous by their absence. We have a lot of opinions, a lot of ancient sounding words thrown about (many of which are not Avestan) but few facts in support of this tradition. Yes, we have such a tradition in Zoroastrianism. Thanks for this very illuminating article, busting the myths surrounding what is nothing but a biological occurrence. By giving historical, religious and scientific evidence, the writer has exposed the absurdity of stigmatizing and humiliating women for a process which, as she rightly points out, generates the miracle of new life. I do hope it helps in breaking the taboo surrounding menstruation. Traditions and customs arise out of knowledge and practices prevailing at any given point in time, and to continue with them even when scientific evidence has shown the fallacy of the beliefs is nothing but sheer ignorance and hypocrisy.
