“Tata’s travails”

Sadly, in the "tussle” between Ratan Tata and Cyrus Mistry ("Tata’s travails,” Business, Parsiana, December 21, 2016), the fundamental cause is overlooked, namely, the relative absence of succession planning in even the best of Indian companies as compared to such planning embedded in multinational corporations (MNCs). Succession planning is a long, disciplined and complex process, starting from right recruitment to right promotion. It goes far beyond human resources and is mandated by boards in MNCs. It involves detailed knowledge management and the flow towards the accumulation of knowledge capital which is then leveraged to identify leaders.        NAWSHIR KHURODY ndkhurody@gmail.com ...
