Log hut at Saputara

A unique looking forest log-hut (pictured, photo courtesy: tripadvisor) constructed and run by the forest department of Gujarat is under the charge of the deputy conservator of forests, South Dangs, Ahwa. It is located at Saputara on the extreme border of Gujarat and Maharashtra. It is constructed on a hillock and its major attraction is the neat and calm environment with a cool, gentle wind. This is not a commercial place. You need to have a recommendation from the forest department to be permitted a stay there. The stay is cheap at Rs 355 per day, but any aam aadmi (commoner) may not be lucky enough to stay there. The forest log hut, built entirely of wooden blocks, is evocative of the British era. It has three rooms on the ground floor and two on the first floor. One luxurious room is meant for VVIPs only like the governor of Gujarat, who on his visits to Dangs prefers to stay here. This unique structure is far superior than the other star hotels in Saputara.
