Dakhmas: “back on track”

According to the Parsi Connect column by Bombay Parsi Punchayet (BPP) chairman Yazdi Desai in the Parsi Times issue of March 4, 2017 the expenses for managing and running the Doongerwadi estate which comprises around 55 acres, five dakhmas, one chotra, 11 bunglis and housing for employees, is Rs 2.84 crores. Hence the cost of disposing a single corpse in the calendar year 2016 worked out to Rs 41,949 (Rs 2,84,00,000 divided by 677 bodies consigned to the towers in the January to December 2016 period).
