Rathestars’ outreach

 On their annual trip to Gujarat to help the less fortunate, the committee members of the Young Rathestars received "a teary-eyed welcome." These tears "represent relief and assurance, knowing that they will be taken good care of," Arnavaz Mistry, president of the organization that is now in its 75th year, informs Parsiana via email. In their recently concluded trip they covered 700 km over four days, assisting 75 families across multiple villages, informs Mistry’s note. Basic provisions such as rice, pulses, sugar, oil, toiletries, sudrehs and kustis are distributed during each trip. The organization also helps with medical and educational aid, interest free loans for small scale businesses and maintenance of homes, including building of lavatories, wells and animal sheds. Their Gujarat Poverty Relief Project was initiated in 1992 under which committee members provide assistance to families living in the interior villages around Ankleshwar, Bharuch and Surat, among others.
