Rangoon realistic

I saw the movie Rangoon yesterday and yes, I liked it a lot. For one, I am a great fan of actor Kangana Ranaut and a Vishal Bharadwaj directed movie is not to be missed. Before I go further, let me tell you at the outset itself, Parsis (Saif Ali Khan Pataudi as Rusi Billimoria and his family) are portrayed realistically. Yes we had a soft corner for the British Raj and we considered them our good friends, so much so that we imitated them to the hilt! The change of heart from a pucca English saheb to a patriotic Indian is well etched, and Saif suits the role to a tee! Shahid Kapoor too is a good actor, and has done full justice to his role. The beautifully photographed movie is a treat to the eyes. Maybe it’s a bit slow but we didn’t mind it a bit. Ranaut is fantastic as Miss Julia. Rangoon is a tale of World War II in which Indian soldiers were dragged into the battle because India was under British Raj. It’s a powerful film.       RODA D. HAKIM vadhakim@yahoo.com ...
