Natural gas for crematoria

Seven environmentally friendly crematoria fueled by PNG (piped natural gas) are planned to be installed by the BMC (Bombay Municipal Corporation) by the end of July this year in the city, reported the Daily News and Analysis (DNA) of June 12, 2017.  The report states that PNG-powered crematoria instantly heat up to the optimum capacity once switched on. "This will help reduce running and maintenance costs… electric pyres need continuous heating,” explained the report. Six more gas based crematoria "will take some more time to be ready,” it said. Each new facility costs around five crore rupees (USD 776,217), a civic official was quoted.     Currently, the BMC runs 46 crematoria of which only 11 run on electricity; the remaining are wood-pyre based.  ...
