“A determined fighter”

Of the 56 Indian origin candidates who contested the general elections in UK on June 8, 2017 was Bombay born Freddy Vachha (pictured, Photo: guardian-series.co.uk) from the UK Independence Party (UKIP). Contesting the seat in the constituency of Old Bexley and Sidcup, a Conservative stronghold, Vachha managed to secure 1,619 votes against sitting candidate James Brokenshire who was reelected with  29,545 votes, according to a report in The Evening Standard of June 8.
