“In loving memory of…”

In his article "In loving memory of…” (Parsiana, February 21-March 6, 2024) Hemant Chaturvedi mentions various little known Parsi aramgahs in different parts of the country, his fascination for them as well as his passion to learn more about them. I noticed that he has missed out on mentioning the one in Nagpur which I had visited earlier this year. My grand-aunt, Dr Najamai Rustamji Mucadam, passed away in January 1975 and was laid to rest there, so I visited the aramgah when I was in Nagpur. Subsequently, with some local contacts and assistance I managed to have the gravestone cleaned and the inscription on it made legible. I found the record-keeping to be excellent and a site map at the aramgah made finding the grave relatively easy. The list was neither inclusive nor exhaustive. There are many more aramgahs in India of which few may be aware as the last Parsi resident in the area may have died decades earlier.  ...
