Spruced up and looking their best, the baugs in Bombay end their months of hibernation and gear up for the four-month celebration season commencing November. Since the hot summer months are avoided and the duration of the wet monsoons are ruled out, the open-air baugs are mainly enjoyed in winters. And if it is a leap year when marriages are considered inauspicious by some members of the community, their usage is further restricted. Faced with mounting maintenance costs, these long-standing institutions that have served the community for over a century or two are endeavoring to improve their amenities.
