Cheering the seniors

In their shaky voices they poured out their happiness in song, noted Daizy Patel, secretary of the Zoroastrian Women’s Assembly of Surat (ZWAS). She was referring to the 24 seniors at the Surat Parsi Panchayat run Nariman Home that cares for the elderly who were visited by 24 ZWAS members on October 22, 2023. "The wrinkled faces cheered as they got to sing their favorite tunes,” she stated. One resident expressed his desire to dance to the Bollywood number Street Dancer, a popular film song. "It was satisfying to see him fulfil his wish.” Since it was Navratri week (just before the Hindu festival of Dusshera), garba was also on the cards. Gifts of tea mugs from ZWAS trustee Maharukh Chichgar and food packets from ZWAS president Mahazarin Variava followed. Dinner was sponsored by member Gulshan Master.    Members of Zoroastrian Women’s Assembly of Surat mingle with seniors at Nariman Home  As the women departed from the facility, a resident remarked, "Aavu tau amé vicharélu bhi nai ké koi apri sathé avi ritna evening spend karsé (We had not imagined that anyone would spend an evening with us like this).”           F. I will just add, that happily in Karachi our young people visit home for elderly and those residing in the Parsi General Hospital on all festive occasions.
