Prayerful years

"Despite thin attendance, a humbandagi continues to be held every Monday at 7 p.m.” and is led by head priest Ervad Mehernosh Bharucha, stated a note received by Parsiana from Hyderabad’s Bai Maneckbai N. Chenoy Agiary Trust secretary and treasurer Russi Doctor. The humbandagi group of the Agiary completed 12 years of continuously conducting the group prayers on February 13, 2018. Speaking to Parsiana on February 21, community member Kerfegar Antia, who assists with administrative matters at the Trust, rued the thin attendance of "about 30” community members. Though a Parsi colony is adjacent to the fire temple, only 10 to 20 Zoroastrians from there regularly attend the Monday prayers, he said. Antia estimates the community population in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad at 1,100. The February prayers were followed by a talk by Bharucha on the life of Maneckji Limji Hataria who worked for the upliftment of Zoroastrians in Iran in the 19th century. ...
