Your cover story "Dara’s dairying” (Parsiana, March 21-April 6, 2020) reinforces what many business leaders in the Tata Group in the early 1960s felt about the economic development of India. Namely, that the focus should be on rural initiatives so that people could stay and prosper on their land.
Instead, the Government of India opted for an industrial focus, leading to the creation of migrant labor.
The story of Amul, Mother Dairy, etc, all point to how India could not only have been self-sufficient in food, but could in fact have become the bread basket of the entire Middle East region.
