Muktad tables

People ask about the significance of the white sheet above the muktad tables and whether the system can be done away with. The thick white cotton cloth which is tied to the ceiling above the tables is called a chandarvo. This sacred ancient tradition is followed by the Sanjana priests of Udvada. A chandarvo was always placed above the tables by Ervad Phiroze Jehangir Makujina during the muktad ceremonies there. The Boyce Agiary at Tardeo in Bombay had a chandarvo over the muktad tables since its inception, but the practice was discontinued a few years ago.  The late Dastur (Dr) Hormazdyar K.
