“Road to salvation”

In his letter "Road to salvation,” (Readers’ Forum, Parsiana, September 21-October 6, 2019) Behram Dastur states that the Parsis do not believe in grihasthashrama which, I feel, is the only ashrama Parsis do give importance to. Grihasthashrama is the second of the four ashramas or stages in the life of an individual according to the Hindu system of ashramas. In this stage a person carries out the duties and responsibilities of a householder and actively contributes to the well-being of society. Perhaps he means vaanaprasthashrama, the stage that precedes sanyasashrama, when the householder is supposed to gradually withdraw from society, handing over the reins to the next generation.
